Stream of Love Divine (Prema Dhaara)
Poems, Quotations Sathya Sai Baba to His Students (a Collection of Letters)
Compiled by Sri J. Venkatraman (3rd Year B Com. Student, 1992-93)
PART 2 , return to PART 1
Received the letters
written by all the boys. I cannot get the necessary time to write individual
letters to all. Convey My Blessings to all the boys. Tell them that they should
study well and conduct themselves in a manner that would please Swami, and they
should behave in such a way as to earn Swami's Grace. They have been writing,
"Swami should come."
They should see to it
that Swami comes to them. Swami would Himself come if they strictly adhere to
His words and commands with regard to talking, playing, singing and overall
behaviour. Devotion is like a magnet. When kept clean and free from any trace of
impurity, it will pull towards it any entity, irrespective of capacity, power
or strength. And, putting Swami's ideals into practice constitutes. the action
of the purest kind.
They want Swami but
they disregard Swami's commands. How then can they secure Swami? If they make
an effort to conduct themselves by keeping in view that Swami's command is more
important and significant than Swami Himself, Swami will become theirs very easily.
By resisting from indulging in loose and unnecessary talk, in being over smart,
in casting bad and evil looks or in acts which are bad, there will be no place
at all for a poisonous and polluted mind.
It is not a mistake
if unhealthy and undesirable thoughts happen to arise, but care must be taken
to see that the body does not follow them. Sai Himself is ever willing and ever
ready to help and assist them at all times and at all places. It is this which
gives joy to Sai. Convey My Blessings once again to all. Come to Prashanti
Nilayam around 10th or 11th.
Blessings, – Baba 30.9.1975
It is only when all the boys behave
well that I can come. Otherwise it will not be possible, just not possible. – Baba
From sleep you wake,
to sleep you go again. In between two periods of sleep you are engaged in
activity, activity which is just aimed at filling. bellies. All life is not
lived by satisfying physical hunger only. It is an opportunity to remember,
cherish and seek the presence of God. The world stage is full of characters.
The Lord, the director, has cast each one in a separate role. One ought to
learn to perform one's role perfectly. This can happen only if the director is
obeyed to the letter, to each and every direction of His. Anything done against
His direction by the character in the drama of life renders the individual
useless and desolate. Ego and attachment are the two things that bar one from
obeying the director's commands.
It is only when
Arjuna surrendered himself, confessed his ignorance, his exhaustion and despair
and sought Krishna's guidance that the Lord began to confide in him the Supreme
Truth. As long as the feeling of "I" and "Mine" reign over
the individual, the Lord shall not step into the arena of one's life, the
precincts of one's heart. So, learn to live for the satisfaction of one's real
Self by becoming selfless. Self-confidence, self-sacrifice, selfsatisfaction
and self-realisation are the guide posts to the fruition of life.
Self-confidence is the foundation, self-sacrifice is the top, self-satisfaction
is the pillar and self-realisation is the mansion.
It is not enough if
one earns a university degree. One should strive to earn the Universal Degree.
In order to become the near and dear one of the Lord, one should become either
like the flute or like the pair of chappals (sandals). The chappals bear all
the weight of the person who wears them as well as the pain of the thorns,
shrubs and pebbles on the ground underneath. Learn to cultivate fortitude,
patience and love, and seek to give and live.
It is much better and
easier to become the flute. The flute is hollow, devoid of likes and dislikes,
desire, anger, envy, malice and greed, of me and mine. Have the goal clear
before you and strive to reach it.
Your advancement is
measured by the yardstick of selfcontrol. The ear must hear, the eye must see,
the tongue must taste, the hands must work, the legs must walk according to the
dictates of the Atma.
With Blessings, – Baba

Each of you must take
some spiritual sadhana or other in order to cleanse the mind of lust and greed,
anger and hatred. Come out of the well of ego and swim in the ocean of
Universal Spirit or Paramatma of which you are a part. Force your mind or
persuade it gently and caressingly to breathe the pure and more vital atmosphere
of the eternal. Remember God and His Glory, every second, every breath, when
you repeat one of His Names.

My Dear Boys!
Accept My Love.
Really there is no comparison to Gopis' love. Gopis' love stands alone above
every other kind of devotion. When Krishna left Brindavan and went to Mathura
(or Parthi), the agony of the Gopis was very great. Krishna coming to know of
it sent Uddhava, His friend, to console them. When the Gopis saw Uddhava, they
crowded around him and asked, "How is my Krishna? When is my Krishna
coming?"
Uddhava said,
"Krishna (or Sai) has sent me to give you some advice as to how you can
realise the Atman who is pervading everywhere and thereby know that you and
Krishna, who is Atman, are one, and that you have no reason to feel His
separation. Krishna is within you. He is not merely a form. He is your own
Atman." Listening to these words, the Gopis replied: "We do not want
your philosophy. We are not at all interested in it. We want Krishna (Sai), the
beautiful being whom we adore, love and worship. Without Him, we are utterly
miserable. You can keep the knowledge of Atman for yourself. We will have
nothing to do with it. We will have Him alone, our adored One."
Boys! Their hearts
were aflame, their eyes were filled with tears and they were silent. In this
Brinda van, there are no Gopis. They are not feeling like that.
Your Sai Krishna is always with you. You are not realising this. What can I do?
My dear Boys. Be Happy.
With Love and Blessings, – Sai
Krishna. (7.1.1976)
Dear Children!
Receive My Blessings.
Though I have left you and moved away from you physically,
to those who have cognised and realised the truth of My being always with you,
in you and around you in My Love Form, their experience itself is the proof.
I have placed and
pinned all My hopes on you. I am hoping that you will fulfil all
My aspirations. I am blessing you thus. I would never like you to pursue
insignificant, worthless studies to earn mere praise. My hope and wish is that
you would undertake that education, which is Truth itself, so that you may
secure and experience everlasting peace, thereby showing that peace to the
world.
In this world there
are lakhs of colleges which impart education devoid of any significance or
value. Why then should I spend an enormous amount of money to establish
colleges? One reason to bring you here on the pretext of imparting worldly
education is that your parents and your owns elves have a particular
fascination for such an education. While giving you such education on one hand,
on the other it is the Sai Sankalpa to fill. your hearts and minds with Adhyatmic
education which actually is the basis for worldly studies. Along with the
Spiritual education, Aarthika education, Arthaarthi education and
Jignaasa education are also virtually necessary.
Jnaana is that which is
made up of these three. Jnaana is that very essence of education. Jignaasa
is the core (juice, in the case of a fruit). Arthaarthi is the pulp. Aarthi
is the skin of the fruit. There cannot be fruit without the skin, the pulp and
the juice. Isn't that so? If so, one who is desirous of tasting the sweetness
of the fruit, has to receive the whole fruit - the skin, pulp and juice
together.
If you become such
'juicy fruits' made up of these three entities, Sai will accept them. By
discarding the outer skin, He will partake of the sweet juice and exhibit to
the world. If in the 160 fruits, at least some one were to become such a fruit,
it will be possible to have the entire world in one's grip. You should become
fruits which have to be offered to Swami. You should become the offering itself
(Naivedya). You should become Swami's instrument. You should become the beloved
of Swami. You should take each step in keeping with Swami's step. You should
stand by Swami as His companions, like His shadow. I am in need of such
persons. They are the very embodiments of My love. "They are I."
"I am they." You should become such that you will foster the world in
respect of the body, mind and spirit. You should behave in consonance with
Swami's ideas and aspirations. It is only then that you will have given comfort
and happiness to your parents, to the world and to Sai.
– Your Hrudaya Sai.

My Dear Boys!
You truly love when
you feel one with all. Love is the light of the spirit. Realise the spirit and
you are filled with Love. Get the flower and you have its beauty and fragrance.
In colour see harmony, in light see joy. In outward form and in the depths of
things behold yourselves. You are the Truth.
Come one and all. See
in Me yourself, for I see Myself in you all. You are My life, My breath, My
soul. You are all My Forms. When! love you, I love Myself. So, do you love Me?
My being is loving; how can I help it? My beloved ones, you are My own dear Self.
I am separate from Myself so that I can love Myself. Distance does not obstruct
the flow of My Love. Love travels quicker than thought; it is the invisible
mystical touch.
My dears! Your loving
letters of the 9th instant to hand. Accept my Love and Blessings.
– With Prema, Baba
16.2.1976
Have confidence in the vast powers of the
Atma, which is your reality. Have faith in the Grace of God, which you can
secure by prayers.
My Dears,
Your perfect
submission to His will brings us immediate peace and bliss. This self surrender
is attained only by our ceaseless remembrance of Him and His attributes. Let us
therefore consecrate our life to Him and live in thought, word and deed for His
sake. He is our all-inall, and sole friend. You truly love when you feel one with
all. Love is the light of the spirit. Realise the spirit and you are filled
with love. Get the flower and you have its beauty and fragrance. In colour see
harmony, in light see joy. In outward from and in the depths of things behold
yourself. You are the Truth.
With Love and Blessings, – Sri
Sathya Sai Baba

Convey My New Year
Gifts of Love to all. May all give joy to' Sai by putting into practice Sai's
Ideals and living long, healthy and prosperous lives, filled with happiness,
noble qualities and virtues. All should bring a good name to the College and
happiness to their parents by passing in First Class: New Year blessings also
to Central College, Law College, Factory and C.A. Boys.

31.12.1976
My Dear Boys!
Accept my blessings
and love. I received all letters. Very happy.
The pure heart is the
best mirror for the reflection of Truth. So, all these disciplines are for the
purification of the heart and, as soon as it is pure, all Truths flash upon it
in a minute. All Truths in the universe will manifest in your heart if you are
sufficiently pure. The harder the circumstances, the more trying the
environment, the stronger are the men who come out of these circumstances.
So, welcome all these
outside troubles and anxieties. Live pure Bhakti or the Vedas even in
these surroundings, and when you live the Vedas, you will see that the
surroundings and circumstances will succumb to you and yield to you. They will
become subservient to you and you will become their master.
Be Happy, My Dears! I
am always with you, in you, around you...
With Love and Blessings, – Baba
17.8.1976
The salutations which
all of you have sent have been received. Distribute drops of My Love to all.
Laziness
is useless in any field of endeavour. In the field of spirituality it is
positively useless. Tendencies like laziness, a sense of taking things easy or
a feeling of badness do not have a place in the spiritual field. A student, in
order to succeed in examination, undertakes any amount of labour. If the
ordinary worldly education requires such steadfastness and single-minded
dedication to achieve the goal, then ask the boys to imagine what a tremendous,
severe and intense effort is required in the sphere of supra-worldly education.
Spending your time in
unnecessary and futile debates and discussions, bei.ng satisfied with things
associated with the. senses and running after desires is neither good nor
healthy. To be under the illusion that there is water in a mirage and to seek
this water and to get tired and fatigued in the process does not fetch any
dividend. This is not going to quench the thirst. He who becomes a slave to the
senses and runs after his desires will be led to the same sense of
disappointment, frustration and despair.
A musk deer unaware
of the fact that the perfume emanates from itself, and imagining that the
perfume is elsewhere, looks and searches for it. In the same manner, man
unaware of his real identity, his true nature, and thinking that God - is
elsewhere, harbours the illusion that he wants to go to Parthi. This indicates
a mind which is not secure and strong. The situation of our boys is like that
of one who sits on the banks of the flowing river of life but still
suffers from intense thirst. The attitude of our boys is like that of
one who sits beside a heap of rice but still suffers from the pangs of hunger.
Not realising that the effulgent Sai is within them, our boys are searching
hither and thither.
The world of Bliss is
there alone. However, it cannot be seen by the eyes. The one and only reason
for this is, a life based on and lived in the senses. How fortunate
they would be if only they are to plunge into the adventure of experiencing Sai
and putting in the required effort. Truly speaking, the Brindavan boys
are definitely "Punyulu" and positively "Dhanyulu."
But still they are
not putting into practice Sai's ideals to the required extent. They have not
been able to give full. satisfaction to Sai. Also, there is too much talking.
The excessive talking should be reduced. For the present, if they were to
rectify these, they will secure Sai's Love. They do not believe that Sai is in
them, around them, and witnessing and listening to everything. There is no
greater or a more creditable thing than to realise this fact.
– Baba, 3.9.1976
Hoping You'll guide me,
this day or the day
after
I await Your call from day to day.
Hoping You'll give darshan,
but afraid You may
not,
I'm all alert from hour to hour.
Hoping You'll come to me straight
This very instant,
I'm watching and praying ever anon.
Hoping You'll smile at me
at last, though not
at first,
I'm longing gaxing with thirsty eyes.
I shall stand and stay, in deep distress
Until my day of bliss does dawn;
I am Yours, Your own, though exiled far.
Dear Father mine! Do heal Your child.
My dear Boys!
Accept my love and
blessings. Why not be more concerned with what lasts forever,
what is permanent and eternal? Why not care more for that than for the fleeting
relations? Why not think more of the eternal, permanent Reality with which you
cannot part? Why not try to secure and realise That? And, why try to sacrifice
the permanent Reality, the real Eternity? Why sacrifice That for fleeting,
impermanent relations?
My boys! If you fail
a thousand times, make an attempt once more. The ideal of man is to
see God m everything, see Him in one thing, in that thing which you like best,
and then see Him in another. So, on you can go. There is infinite life before
the soul! Take your time and you will achieve your end.
Sai is always within
you and around you. Be Happy.
With Blessings and Love,
Yours, – Sri Sathya Sai Baba
4.1.1977
My Dear Boys!
Accept my Love and
Blessings. The object of devotion should be to realise God in your heart and
allow Him to fill in all parts of your being with His light and power. This
done, your hearts will be overflowing with Divine Love towards all beings in
the world. Your eyes will see only God everywhere. Your hands will work only
for the good of everybody and you will ultimately become the very embodiments
of God, filled with bliss and ever surcharged with ecstasy.
In this state, the
difference between the Bhakta and Bhagawan will
disappear. The Bhakta by constant remembrance and surrender to God.
becomes God Himself. So, when you constantly think of God, you become His very
image. Then it is you that enjoy immortal joy and peace.
My Boys! Be Happy.
Your Swami, your Sai, is always within and around you. He is coming soon to
give you joy.
With Love, – Baba
9.8.1977
My Dear Boys!
Accept My love. Sai
is Infinite Love. It is this love that pervades and appears as the universe
around us. This love is seated ever in your hearts. So, you are not different
from the universe: the Universe is Sai, your Sathya Sai, Prema Sai.
My Boys! Think for
yourselves how much time you waste in talking unnecessarily. If you keep a
strict watch over yourselves, you will find that your actual working hours are only
a few. Daily you spend 8 to 10 hours in sleep, while you need only 6 hours.
Besides, whenever you are free from work, you can keep your mind engaged in the
remembrance of Sai (God), and have His pure and glorious name on your lips. You
can also chant the name as you walk along. If only you make up your mind, you
can find ample time during the day to remember Him.
Fill your mind with
high thoughts and the highest ideals. Keep them in your mind day and night and
out of that will come great work. Talk not about impurity but say that you are
pure. You have hypnotised yourselves into this thought that you are little; that
you are born and you are going to die and live in a constant state of fear. My
dears! Your Sai is always with you, in you, around you. Do not fear. Be Happy.
With Love and
Blessings,
–
Baba. (14.9.1977)
My Dear Boys!
Accept my Love and
Blessings. I received all your letters. Give all that is yours
to Sai Krishna lovingly. Like the fool who squanders his life's boon you, too,
can, receive Bliss from above and still look for the sun at high noon. Give all
yours to Sai and merge with Him, just like a moth that flies into the flame.
Then you will surmount all problems. He is Reality. Life is a false game.
My Boys! Be Happy and study well. Your Sai is always with you and around you.
Love, – Baba
19.9.1977
My Dear Boys!
Accept my Blessings
and Love. I received all your letters. Very happy. One fundamental point that
you have to bear in mind while repeating the Sai Name, that is when you take
that Name, you must feel that itis only by His Will and Power that you are doing
so, and not by your own. Your progress will be easy if you feel that you are
doing everything by the Divine Will and Power at the very start of your
sadhana. There are some people who do Japa and are proud of the fact that they
are doing it. They think they are superior to others. That is very harmful.
Spiritual aspirants have to remove egoism of this
nature. You defeat your object by developing a feeling that you are purer than
others.
God's Name must be
chanted with all Love and Faith. Then Vasanas drop out of the mind automatically,
without any effort. God comes to the devotee when he cries to Him, just as a
mother goes to her child. It is perfectly true to say that the easiest,
shortest and quickest path to reach Sai is the repetition of His sweet and
glorious Name, which makes the mortal immortal and changes man into God.
My Boys! Your sweet Sai is always with
you, in you. Be happy.
With Love.
Yours, – Baba. (3.10.1977)
Received the
salutations sent by you, the drops of love contained in them have cooled and
soothed Sai's Heart.
For 'Kaaranajanmaas'
(people born with a mission), the days on which they take up the physical body
should not alone be identified as their birthdays. Such days are birthdays only
for the physical body. In fact, there are no births for that which is divine
and sacred. The 'Kaaranajanmaas' take up a body in order to fulfil a purpose.
They proclaim and propagate the highest ideals. It is only when we put these
principles into practice in our own lives and experience them, that we can say
we have shown our sense of gratitude to them.
All are undoubtedly
messengers. Everyone should experience, enjoy and spread the gospel and glory
of God to others in the world. When you do this, you can say, "I am the
Messenger of God." Then, you should install the Master in the altar of your
heart. You can very well say, "I am the Son of God." You become near
and dear to the Lord. You should let your love be enveloped in God's Love and
your heart merged in God's Heart. This, indeed, is the close stage, when, on
the Atmic plane, you get the conviction (born out of experience) that He and
you are one and the same. This stage confirms the truth of the statement,
"I and my Father are One." Then one can experience identity with the
Father.
The three stages are
therefore: on the physical plane, you are the messenger; on the mental plane,
you are the son; and lastly on the Atmic plane, you and He are one. The day you
understand the significance of these statements and translate them into your
own lives and experience them, then you will get the right to celebrate the
birthday of Jesus. Celebrations of His birthday does not consist of merely
decorating the Christmas tree, lighting the candles and singing carols.
Obeying implicitly
Sai's commands and injunctions constitute the first stage. Then you should
transmit these to others, thereby establishing a link with the very embodiment
of Love in your heart, and at the heart level. This signifies the establishment
of a final relationship between yourself and the Master, who thus becomes the
Father. You now secure the right to consider Him to be the Lord, the overseer,
the recipient and your everything. Gradually after this, you will come to a
stage where spontaneously you become one with Him. He will become one with you
and all will be His. Now, there is only one kingdom, there is only one throne
(seat}, and only that (kind of} love is verily God.
You should experience
the sweetness of that Love. Truly that Love is the Blood of God, which the wine
represents. Then the muscles (body), which God uses selflessly for service, is
symbolised by the bread. When this 'blood' and 'body', are used together, y6u
will understand what Jesus referred to as wine and bread.
The intoxicant
wine which inebriates a person with worldly affairs and causes desires in him
is the blood. The flesh which craves for material sensory pleasures is the
bread. These two should be mixed together, and then by contemplating on them as
God's blood and God's body, they should be transmuted into organs that are
manifestations of Divinity. It is only then that they will become consecrated
and pure.
'Blood'
should not be taken to mean ordinary blood.
It should be thought of as Sai's blood. Only then will it become the offering,
a Mahayoga (the royal path) culminating in Sai. You should regard your
muscles as masses of Sai's Love, and utilise them
to secure Sai’s Grace. Then it will become an offering to Sai and bring Him
joy. This is the inner significance of the external symbolism, when people take
bread and wine together in Churches.
Jesus is not the
original name. It is Isa. This Isa has become Sai. Isa also means Iswara. The
good deeds you have performed in countless births before have resulted in your getting
Sai in this lifetime of yours. Without much difficulty, you should retain and securely hold this possession. Experience it and
derive Bliss from it.
Truly for the past
week, the service activities you have been maintaining in Brindavan, at the
college and in the hospital, proves beyond doubt the spirit of oneness that
prevails amongst you. Treating these as your own homes, you are looking after
them. Your love (blood) which is Sai's Divinity and your steadfastness and
dedication (flesh) which is Sai's food are indeed par excellence. You have made
Sai supremely happy. You are all indeed Blessed!
O! Worthy recipients
of Sai's Love! You need not take so much trouble. It is of course
laudable that, motivated. by Sai 's love, you are fulfilling your duty. Still
there is no cause to be afraid.
Sai's Raksha
(Protection) is on your side and is in your heart. Do not entertain fear of any
sort. Be Happy.
Yours, – Baba
Christmas Message, 1978
My Dear Boys!
Heartiest greetings
and all good wishes for a Happy Day and New Year. Love is patient and kind, it
is not jealous or conceited or proud. Love is not ill-mannered or selfish or
irritable. Love does not keep a record of wrongs. Love is not happy with evil,
but is happy with truth. Love never gives up and it gives faith and hope. Love
is eternal.
With Love, – Sri Sathya Sai Baba
1.1.1979
All letters sent by
the boys have reached me. Their contents have been noted. Their devotion and
attitude of surrender are indeed good; but now and then the boys tend to forget
Swami's ideals. Each person desires happiness and peace. Nobody wants misery.
However, the mistake
in them lies in the fact that they are not able to realise where true happiness
and peace are obtained. Real happiness and peace can neither be found in wealth
and possession, nor in academic, material or scientific vocations. These give
only transitory peace and happiness.
Real peace exists
only in the Love of God. Man's true endeavour in life should be to attain God's
Love This is the primary distinction of man: From this knowledge dawns wisdom,
and wisdom in turn bestows happiness and peace. That is why Thyagaraja inquired
of the mind whether the world gave happiness or God gave happiness. Worldly
happiness appears sweet in the beginning but turns out to be poisonous in the
end. On the other hand, the Divine Path seems to be difficult in the beginning
but takes on a sweet form in the long run.
Sai has no gains
whatsoever from anyone. Nevertheless, keeping in mind the inner bliss of all,
Sai gives directives. Whatever Sai says, whatever Sai does, whatever Sai
thinks, are all for your welfare alone. As He Himself has everything in His
hands, there is absolutely nothing that He desires. Whispering with each other,
feeling jealous if Swami talks to someone else, discussing the good and bad of
others are signs of supreme ignorance.
The boys are unable
to comprehend the Sai Principle, the Sai Nature, without knowing that it is the
result of good deeds done in previous lives that brings some closer to Sai, and
which makes others feel unnecessarily bad. Without wasting this opportunity,
make good use of Sai. Once lost, the Lord of Parthi will never again be
accessible. So, serve and secure the Lotus Feet while you can. I have made this
known to you on many occasions. Do not fear the world. In reaching the Lord of
the world (Lokesha), if you are frightened of the world (Loka),
then who is to save you? Not caring for the world, all of you should serve the
Lord. I have also told you many times· before that, by giving you devotion and
suffusing you with vitality, I shall liberate you.
The boys are good. By
engaging themselves in unnecessary talk they are spoiling their Reduction of
idle talk will abolish exaggerated mannerisms. Purity will increase in the
absence of these two and Godhood will be attained. The nature of Sai's love is
devoid of even the slightest trace of selfishness. Lives aspiring for such
divine fresh and blessed love are sacred indeed. Those who realise this and
endeavour for this are deserving receptacles of Sai's Love. pure nature.
Like the insane
monkey which spoils the entire garden in its frenzy, those who have not been
able to deserve this Love are sinning by envying those who are receivi.ng and
are to receive Sai's Love. To extinguish such sins, the festival of Holi or the
burning of desires has come into existence. This auspicious festival is
intended for the shedding of one's prejudices, the discharging of one's selfish
motives, the burning of rajasic and thamasic traits and
strengthening of one's love for God. In a nutshell, it is to destroy desire (Kama)
and attain God (Rama).
Having attained Sai
Rama who is always with you, to desire for the world is indeed foolishness.
Having attained such singular privilege due to the merits of many lives, it is
indeed unfortunate that our boys still hanker after worldly pleasures. Sai is the
personification of Love, the embodiment of sweetness and the repository of all
power. Desire the grace of such Sai and experience and enjoy everlasting peace
and happiness.
On the Holi day, Sai
Love must be distributed equally to all. Tell them to change their old and
obnoxious traits, to live with good conduct and to vindicate their human birth.
This is Sai's Love.
– Baba
13.3.1979 (Holi)
Freedom is
independence from externals. One who is in need of help of another person,
thing or condition, is a slave thereof. Perfect freedom is not given to any man
on· earth because the very meaning of mortal life is relationship with and
dependence on one another. The lesser the number of wants, the greater is the
freedom. Hence perfect freedom is absolute desirelessness.
– Sri Sathya Sai Baba
20.10.1979
Convey My New Year
Blessings to all the boys. Tell them that they should study well and pass their
examinations in First Class. They should also lead an ideal and worthy life by
implicitly following Swami's Commands and cultivating high and noble thoughts.
They should shape themselves into boys having good qualities, good behaviour
and a pure mind.
If they nurture such
sacred ideas at a young age they will stand in good stead both in youth and in
old age. Such sacred ideas will remain with them throughout their lives and
express themselves in all actions. Also tell them that they should avoid
excessive talk and should give no opportunity to go out of their way to
establish unnecessary contacts with each other. Instead, they should fulfil the
purpose for which they have come and follow the ideals of Sai.
Ultimately this is
what will remain. This alone will take them to the goal and shower Grace. No
one is related or attached to the other.
The only true and
permanent relationship is with Sai and all other attachment is merely worldly
and false. This truth must fill their heart to the brim and continue to ring
within for ever.
– Sai
New Year Message 1.1.80
Tell the boys to
study hard and write the exams well. The opportunity which they are getting is
indeed a great boon which even Devas aspire for. Once this
opportunity slips away, it is lost forever and this atmosphere can never be
regained. The Avatar will soon be recognised by one and all and the entire
world will come to His Feet and tum towards the spiritual path. Make the best.
use of your time now so that you do not repent unnecessarily later. What is the
use of all your studies if you cannot grasp the real Vidya.
Convey My Love and
Blessings to all to boys and tell them to be disciplined. This
opportunity would never come again and ask them to make the best use of it.
Even countless births would not get them back this opportunity.
– Baba.
5.2.1980
Accept my Love and
Blessings. What is morality in the hands of a philosopher? A good deal depends
on the definition of morality especially in the
hands of a philosopher. If he looks upon morality as only a convenience imposed
by common consent by the people on themselves, the philosopher would presumably
attach very little importance to moral issues arising in that connection.
If, on the other
hand, his views lead him to look upon morality as something more than a
convenience of lift, as having a basis more fundamental and rooted m eternal
verities, then naturally the importance of morality to him would be very great.
It is purely a question of definition and attitude. My Love and Blessings to
all.

How are all of you?
Truth is that which does not hold anyone in dissatisfaction but elevates one to
more genuine form of happiness, until its Absolute state is reached. It is not
contradicted by any other experience and does not point to the existence of
anything better or higher than it. That which never changes and is unrestricted
by anything is Truth.
Physical Science is
objective and cannot lead to the Absolute Truth, but Spiritual Science or
Brahma Vidya can lead to the Absolute Truth. God alone is Truth, all others are
mere dust. Do you agree? Yes, God alone is Real and great, everything else is
unreal and valueles. There is nothing second to God. Live in God.
My Love to all.

Love and Blessings to
all. Tell the boys to maintain silence, be disciplined and study hard and do
well in the exams to please Swami.
In this age of Kali,
when the evil forces are rampant and destroying all good people, when even the
devotees of God are going down to these bad evils, the name of God alone can
save anyone. Tell everyone to take this "SAI" Manthra and live with
it throughout their lives. It is the name that will guide and save.
Many devotees have
come here and I am busy with the constructions going on; hence! could not write
anything to the boys. Give them My Love and Blessings.

(In the letter to Sri
Lakshminarasimhan)
These days we are
unfortunately witnessing before our own eyes all the evils of the Kali age
being very freely practised by men and women everywhere, thus inviting the
consequent inevitable sufferings upon themselves and others. To counteract the
evil forces that are gaining ground, the only way prescribed is the chanting of
Sai's name, the glory of which has been extolled again and again. All devotees
and well wishers of humanity should now wholeheartedly take to the chanting of
the name of Sai (their Manthra) for longer hours daily with faith and devotion
and thus contribute their mite towards bringing in peace and happiness, in this
present day world of strife, turmoil and unhappiness.
My Blessings to all.
With Love, – Baba

Accept My Blessings.
On this 1st day of January, Blessings to you for a long, healthy, happy,
peaceful, comfortable life with the experience of spiritual bliss. All of you
should grow into ideal persons. New Year Blessings and drops of Love. All the
boys must study well and cultivate discipline, humility and obedience. A life
devoid of Divine Grace is verily no life at all.
A birth wherein the
Love of God is not secured is really no birth at all. Therefore, take to the
path of spirituality, undertake the necessary sadhana and become worthy
recipients of Sai's Love and Grace. Education merely for a living is like chaff
without the grain. This is also not education in the true sense of the term.
Practise Sai's ideals and experience Atmananda. Love and Blessings to
all.
With Love, – Baba

My beloved teachers
and boys!
Accept My Love and
Blessings. In this world of change, we meet with various vicissitudes of life,
both pleasant and unpleasant. We are afflicted with disease, both mental and
physical. The body is stricken with disease and the mind with· worries. In this
state of our unhappiness, turmoil and misery, there is only one way and that is
to take refuge in Sai. Sai alone can remove these difficulties and disease and
bring us to health, peace and prosperity. He who has got Sai's name on his lip
is a Jeevan Muktha, because continuous remembrance of Sai eliminates the ego
sense and grants him the realisation of his immortal, changeless Self. The name
is a link between the devotee and Sai. It brings the devotee face to face with
Sai and enables him to attain knowledge of his oneness with Sai.
With Love,
– Your Sai, Your Own Sai, Sri Sathya Sai

Students!
Accept My Blessings.
Because I am now immersed in activities that do not allow a moment's break. I
do not have the opportunity to talk to you all directly.
Sai is always with
each of you wherever you are. Be assured. The problems of the country can be
solved only when the special role of education is recognised and efforts made
to realise it. On you, the students, depends the progress or decline of the
country. You are the builders of future India. You are the roots of the tree,
the basement of the building. You have to journey longer than the others. So it
is not enough if you pore over plenty of books. You must equip yourselves to be
the guardians of the society and the pillars of the nation. You must fill your
consciousness with a sense of responsibility. You have to revive the culture of
Bharath.
Discipline and the
sense of duty has to blossom in you. Do not struggle only for
"Marks," but try to avoid "Remarks" on your conduct. You
must act as supports of peace in the country and must not, like the uneducated,
lose control of yourselves and take part in anti-social activities and
destructive incidents. You must shape yourselves as Divine Messengers of the
ideals of intelligent service that is the hallmark of a good citizen.
For, the purpose of
education is the transformation of all aspects of life into full strength and
joy.
It is not the
provision of begging bowls to the youth, and calling them degrees. Jobs are not
so fundamental; inner joy is the important gain. Su yoga is more important than
Udyoga (Employment). From the menial to the minister, the· current cry
is for jobs. Udyoga really means 'Higher Yoga' and it is available to
everyone at all times. Education must confer humility; it must transform,
moral, mental and spiritual fields and purify thought, word and deed. The
educated must gladden the heart of the parents; when that is done, it bears
fruit.
Education is for
life; not for earning a living, remember. May you all be earnest and skilled
builders of a Happy and Prosperous Country. May the anxiety that has developed
soon be dissolved. May all of you contribute to the establishment of Ananda in
all hearts.
Sai is always with you. Be Happy with
Sai's Love.
With Love and Blessings,
– Baba

I am not the body - a mass of flesh, bones
and blood.
I am not the mind - a bundle of wasteful
desires, manifest and unmanifest.
I am not the feeling - of infatuation that
obstructs my way to liberation;
I am that Eternal Paramathman, who is aware
of the power that I Am.
Students!
Accept My Blessings.
Received your letters full of fragrant flowers of information and prayerful
salutations. They have caused this nice letter to be sent to you. This letter
is giving joy to Sai and bringing Sai to you.
The need of the hour
is not to picture life as a garden of happiness and romantic love, but to hold
it out as a battlefield meant to be lived as an ideal of heroism and courage.
In the present circumstances, a play with words would be of no use at all. By
obtaining mere degrees, we can make neither your motherland glow with glory nor
can you blossom forth yourselves.
Seeking Truth, you
should transform yourselves into great devotees, lovers of God and be ready for
any supreme sacrifice including laying down life itself. Bidding goodbye to all
selfishness and self-interest, making Divine Love as the bow and Wisdom as the
arrow; you should shine forth as heroic students, placing your faith in
transcendental Truth and God.
You should know that
you are born to achieve great and stupendous tasks in life. You are the
children of God, heroes in action, great soldiers in the age of Kali, full of
compassion and Divine Love and resolved to make Divinity resound with success
in the world.
This is not the time
for rest and sleep. The future emergence of a glorious new Bharath is dependent
upon you. The mother is awaiting your arrival on the scene. If the morality of
Bharath is destroyed, the world will sink into utter ruin. If the spirituality
of Bharath suffers any setback, it will be to the detriment of the rest of the
world. The unity and integrity of the nation would suffer a setback. The
morality of Bharath is its sweet experience of Divine Love. The love for God
should saturate and flow as the very life-blood.
Hearts should fill
and overflow with waves of idealism. Do not become slaves of external life and
education and destroy the small saplings of spirituality in your heart. Light
the lamps of Truth and dispel all weaknesses in your heart. You are messengers
of God and not servants of the Lord of Death. Establish the Kingdom of
devotion. Earn the Love of God. Develop spiritual knowledge along with worldly
education. Love based on gunas suffers modifications. Make that transcendental
Love as your own goal in life.
Do not become slaves
of low desires and feelings. Make spirituality as your dwelling place. Every
object in creation is transient. It is only the Bliss of Atma which is
inexhaustible. Strive to attain it. Only through Love of God can you attain
such bliss and develop it into full fruition. The inner significance of ‘Krishna
Tulaa Bhaara’ is to show that all the wealth of the world, with all its gold
and diamonds, cannot match God.
It is only Divine
Love which is equal to Him. Foster such devotion in your hearts. Most of you
have not understood the principles that Swami embodies, nor can you comprehend.
Understand Sai's Love. You cannot trace any Selfishness in any comer of Sai. Whatever
He does, is for your sake. There is nothing in the world which Sai needs.
Camphor is white as also the celestial cow,
Stars are white and also the wings of a swan,
And so is the sweet smile of Beautiful Sai,
Sweeter than sweet juice of sugarcane or
even the wine, is the Love of Sai.
The Love of Sai is more soothing and
comforting than the sight of a beautiful flower or the sweet smile of an
innocent child.
Sai's word can confer all joy, happiness
and prosperity on the world
Sai's look can shower the delight of the
rain of the paarijaatha flower
Sai's Hand can confer the comfort of
a loving mother's hand.
This alone is for your joy and welfare
the conferer of Love.
I expect from you
only one thing, that you should transform yourselves into ideal children full
of Bliss, the very embodiments of Atma, proving all this to the world by your
behaviour and conduct in life. That alone is True Education. All other types of
education are only its limbs and parts.
What happiness did
the Demon Somakasura enjoy, stealing the sacred scriptures and abusing Hari?
What did the ten-headed Ravana carry with him, seeking the wife of another
person? By how much did Duryodana gain by denying even an inch of space to
Pandavas? Could Kamsa, who vengefully and watchfully killed the innocent
children of his sister, save himself from death?
Even today that would
be the fate of people who are opposed to Dharma. What more can I convey to you?
Recognizing this truth, carefully follow the proper path and conduct yourselves
accordingly.
– Thus, Sai, The Resident of your heart.
